BROKEN TOYS

BROKEN TOYS

BROKEN TOYS

Written by Carolina Román

Directed by Raymi Ortuse

Translated by L. Finch

Synopsis

From her childhood days during the Franco regime, playing in the dovecote of her family home, Marion dreams of a life without shame - despite being assigned the word “male” at birth.

In the underground sanctuaries of a hiding but thriving queer community, Marion begins to move out of the cages that have kept her true self confined.

With the love of a bruised but bright Drag star, Dorín Delacroix, Marion takes us into a place of light, memory, pain, communion, and celebration.

In an act of defiance and radical self-expression, these bodies will inhabit the centre with pride. And send a love letter to all in the LGBTQIA+ community who have been and are still persecuted for choosing to fly...

THE ISLAND

THE ISLAND

THE ISLAND

Written and directed by Juan Carlos Rubio

Translated by Tim Gutteridge

Synopsis

Ada and Laura are two parents anxiously waiting for news about their son's condition after a devastating accident that has left him with severe injuries. Their son's mental disability has made their lives a living hell, and the prospect of his death could mean the chance to rebuild what is left of their shattered lives.

But can one truly move on from the death of a child? How far can one endure pain and suffering before breaking? "The Island" delves into the raw and uncomfortable territory of human emotion, exploring the fine line between what we feel and what we're capable of showing to the world.

The pain of living and the pain of being dead in life are themes that are powerfully explored in this haunting story. As we are all islands surrounded by water and solitude, "The Island" offers a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the resilience of the human spirit.

EL AMOR DE DON PERLIMPLÍN

EL AMOR DE DON PERLIMPLÍN

THE LOVE OF DON PERLIMPLIN WITH BELISA IN THE GARDEN/EL AMOR DE DON PERLIMPLÍN CON BELISA EN SU JARDÍN

By Federico García Lorca

Directed by Paula Paz

In English and in Spanish on the same performance, with two casts and two different stagings.

Synopsis

Written between 1922 and 1926 and premiered in 1933, Amor de Don Perlimplín con Belisa en su Jardín is a masterpiece of farce that ends in tragedy, mixing lyrical and gortesque moments onstage. In the play, Don Perlimplín is an elderly man who, proud of having remained a bachelor all his life, is convinced by his servant Marcolfa to marry his neighbour Belisa, a tender teenager offered unashamedly and almost by force by her mother. But tragedy explodes on the wedding night when, despite Perlimplín's confession of his love for Belisa, she falls for another man with whom she is having a passionate romance. Aware of the deception, Perlimplín will have to decide how to respond to this treachery.

La casa de Bernarda Alba 2024

La casa de Bernarda Alba 2024

LA CASA DE BERNARDA ALBA

By Federico García Lorca

Directed by Jorge de Juan

The House of Bernarda Alba explores themes of repression, passion and conformity through the depiction of a matriarch’s domination of her five daughters. Described by the author as “a drama of women in the villages of Spain”, the deliberate exclusion of any male character from the action helps build the high level of sexual tension that is present throughout this masterpiece.
